One of the most important things to look at when developing and prototyping Internet of thing solutions is to find the most suitable communication protocol for your application. For this reason, we proud to be able to offer development boards that are compatible with several low-power communication protocols such as OpenThread. This is an open-source implementation of the Thread protocol released by NEST in order to make the technology used in Nest products available for those willing to develop smart home devices.
Therefore, users will find that OpenThread includes Thread networking layers (IPv6, 6LoWPAN, IEEE 802.15.4 with MAC security, Mesh Link Establishment, Mesh Routing) and device roles, as well as Border Router support. Currently, Zolertia Firefly Boards are ideal for testing and developing OpenThread. Thanks to their small form factor, pins available for generic use and dual radio enabled with on-board antennas (no need for external ones to start working).
Curious to learn how to test OpenThread? You can find all the steps to start developing with OpenThread in our Github Wiki Page. We are NOW selling packs of Fireflies, which is the ultimate tool kit needed to start developing OpenThread at a low cost!
